Garvestone and Thuxton Village Hall, Norfolk
The project aim was to replace a cold damp timber hall that had become un-maintainable and the local community was not using to its full capacity. We were initially involved during the early stages of the lottery bid to the community building programme in the summer of 2008 to provide technical advice and budgetary costs.
Sustainable and low energy technologies
It was decided that the application would include sustainable and low energy technologies. This also had the advantage that further applications to other funding bodies could be made for these installations. It then took to December 2010 before the building was handed over to the community.
A ground source heat pump and energy efficient lighting
The project included a 24 kW ground source heat pump with four ground probes in the front car park, each drilled to a depth of 90m. A 6kW wind turbine providing electricity to the hall. Inverters and
controls were located in the halls main plant room. Underfloor heating was installed throughout the hall providing the perfect match to achieve high efficiencies from the heat pump system. Energy efficient lighting was incorporated throughout the village hall in addition to the sun tubes serving toilet and lobby areas.

Monodraught windcatcher natural ventilation systems
